FUN FACTS ABOUT CABIN HOT SPRINGS AND MURILLO
Murillo was founded in 1872 by Ramón María Arana. The economy of Murillo is based on livestock, agriculture, and tourism. The Murillo church was built by community members in 1925, with the help of German citizen Don Rodolfo Hartman, who arrived in the town since its foundation. In 1926, the residents of Manizales gave the clock that is currently in the church. ⛪
Cabin Hot Springs are named after the Cabaña area. They are unique in Colombia due to their thermal waters with colors ranging from blue to the deepest green, thanks to the minerals found in the mountains. 🏞️

HOW TO GET TO LA CABAÑA HOT SPRINGS?
To get to La Cabaña Hot Springs, the first thing we did was to reach Murillo-Tolima. Here, we will show you how the tour experience was from Pereira. 😊
The landscapes we saw left us astonished; they were mountain landscapes, paramos, and in the background, the Nevado del Ruiz, a magical experience. From Manizales to Murillo is approximately 83 kilometers, a journey of 3 to 4 hours by car.
On our way, we could appreciate the following landscapes:
BLACK LAGOON
This is a majestic glacial origin lagoon very close to Nevado del Ruiz. It is a resting place for migratory species such as birds and wild ducks.
SIFÓN HOT SPRINGS
Sifón Hot Springs are turquoise-colored thermal waters located within Los Nevados Natural Park, near Nevado del Ruiz.
To enter, we had to pay the entrance fee.
VIEW OF NEVADO DEL RUIZ
As it was a beautiful day, we could appreciate an impressive view of Nevado del Ruiz amidst the frailejones. It is a view that many consider magical.
Recommendation: Keep this in mind if you are traveling by motorcycle or car: the road has many curves and is a bit narrow, in addition to being traveled by many trucks and buses. So, we recommend being very careful.
LA LLORONA LAGOON
Its name is due, according to some farmers, to the belief that it is haunted, and they feel the presence of people. Others claim that rocks have been thrown at them, and they have even heard screams while passing by.

Some farmers tell that during the war between liberals and conservatives, the killer known as Sangrenegra threw the bodies into this lagoon. For those unfamiliar with Sangrenegra, whose real name was Jacinto Cruz, he was a bloodthirsty murderer who operated in the 1950s and 1960s during the clashes between liberals and conservatives. He was responsible for a brutal torture and murder method known as 'Colombian necktie' or 'flannel cut.' He is attributed to more than 377 homicides.
After passing this lagoon, you will be 30 or 40 minutes away from Murillo, Tolima. 🌄

ROUTE TO LA CABAÑA HOT SPRINGS FROM MURILLO TOLIMA 🚶🏼
From Murillo, we left at 6:30 a.m. from our accommodation. It took us almost 30 minutes to reach the entrance of the Hot Springs. There, they gave us a small talk about the route we were going to take and lent us hiking poles. In addition, they put a bracelet on us, without which we could not enter La Cabaña Hot Springs 🏞️.
Recommendation: The route is demanding as we will climb to 4,100 meters above sea level, where Lake Corazón is located. In total, the route takes approximately 8 hours.
LAKE CORAZÓN
From where the transport left us, we started a tough ascent through a forest. Then, we passed through cattle farms and continued to admire the frailejones for about 4 hours, until we reached Lake Corazón, which is located at 4,100 meters above sea level. 🏞️⛰️
ESPONJAS VALLEY
After seeing Lake Corazón, we continued for about 1 hour to reach the Esponjas Valley. This landscape is located within the La Leonera Alta Paramo 🌿.
VISIT TO THE 7 COLORS WATERFALL
A little after seeing the Esponjas Valley, we continued walking for about 10 minutes to reach the waterfall known as the 7 Colors Waterfall.
LA CABAÑA HOT SPRINGS
After this beautiful waterfall, we continued walking for about almost 1 hour to reach the last destination, and I think many of us made the trip there to see these beautiful Hot Springs ♨️.
Once there, they gave us a small snack while we waited for our turn to enter the Hot Springs. Keep in mind that entry to the Hot Springs is only allowed with a guide, and you must have the entry wristband.
